Israel’s settler-colonial, apartheid regime has inflicted, yet again, another massive round of devastation against the Palestinian people. Beginning earlier this month with attempts to forcibly expel Palestinians from their homes in Jerusalem and attack worshipers in Al-Aqsa mosque during Ramadan, Israel then pummeled the besieged Gaza Strip, killing hundreds of people, including dozens of children, while Israeli mobs and police attacked Palestinian citizens and the Israeli army shot protestors in the West Bank.

Now that a ceasefire has gone into effect--no thanks to the Biden administration, which blocked the UN Security Council from meeting to impose a ceasefire--we must redouble our efforts to sanction Israel now. There is no going back to the status quo. No more “peace process” talks designed to cement Israel’s oppression of the Palestinian people. 

As concerned citizens and residents of the United States, we know that Israel’s settler-colonial, apartheid regime is sustained by the support of the United States and paid for by our tax dollars. 

The Time is Now!

We know the United States has historically imposed, and continues to impose, broad-based sanctions that have a devastating humanitarian impact on people who often live under despotic and undemocratic regimes. Our call to impose sanctions on Israel is not such a call, but a call to place sanctions on the government of a country that imposes an illegitimate settler-colonial, apartheid regime over the indigenous, majority population. In its 2005 international call for campaigns of boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS), Palestinian civil society called upon people of conscience to impose these types of sanctions against Israel. The time is now!
